Menaka has been trained in Indian classical dance vocabulary from the age of three years by her mother and guru Indira P.P. Bora who is an established Indian classical dancer and choreographer and also a recipient of prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award.

Menaka specialises in Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi and Sattriya dance of India. Her formative years were spent in traditional guru-shishya (mentor-disciple) relationships with her mother, Dhananjayans and Dr. Vempatti Chinna Satyam of Chennai where boundaries of dance education were constantly expanded to different genres of traditional and classical art forms. She is a panel artist of Indian Council For Cultural Relations for promoting arts.
